We defrosted this turkey by placing it in cold water. We changed the water to fresh water about every hour or so.
Here is the recipe we used for the brine.

We changed it slightly, as we didn't have the allspice berries.

We changed it slightly, as we didn't have the allspice berries.
We took this picture and added it in because I liked how the brown sugar started to dissolve so I thought this picture would look cool.
The turkey is sitting in the brine, in the fridge, as I type this.
This is the stuffing.

This picture shows me chopping celery.
This shows the celery and onion. We don't always follow the recipe exactly, so this is more onion and celery than called for. We also doubled the recipe.
And this is me stirring the sausage. I think there was onion in there too.
The stuffing will be finished tomorrow!
This is the cranberry sauce which, as the picture shows, is me pouring the orange juice in. We also doubled this recipe because my dad really likes it!

Beginning of cranberry sauce.
Middle. This is when they started popping!
Still middle, nearly done.
Just about done. All you need to do is chill it in the fridge overnight and you're done!
End of part one. Check back tomorrow night for part 2!
Very good job Owen! Are you having Thanksgiving dinner early this year? What a great idea to brine in the veggie drawer--I never thought of that before!
ReplyDeleteFirst, for the "are you having thanksgiving early" question yes, actually tomorrow. On the day part 2 comes out.
DeleteOh and you can always put brine in the veggie drawer any time. I won't bother.
I'm so glad you are back! I can't wait for the next installment, and to see how the Thanksgiving dinner turns out :)
ReplyDeleteBased on my previous encounters with food, it's probably going to be good. But if the fate decides to play a cruel joke on me I'll say "really?? It's thanksgiving!"
DeleteGreat Job on part 1 Owen!! I can't wait to see the cranberry sauce in part two, looks like it is going to be a winner.
ReplyDeleteThank you! I've already had dinner and it was a winner! Dad loved it!
