Happy birthday mom

Guess what? Today is my mom's birthday and to show my appreciation making her a cake. Chocolate to be precise. The recipe can be found here.  By the way,  compared to some of the other posts I'm not even trying on originality. I blame mom for that. Also the frosting is here.  I blame dad for that. Now here's the pictures. By the way,  some of these pictures were taken by me.  You can tell by the horrible camera work.

Some of the cake got stuck to the pan.  I blame the oil canister for that.  So I made a trifle.

Waffles a la Owen

Why haven't I written this sooner? I actually won a national competition with these in 2012, why haven't I written this sooner? Well, later is better than never. I barely even need to write the recipes today...... click me .......Ah, the magic of the internet.

I paired Waffles a la Owen with scrambled eggs (my mom's favorite), sausage (my brother Kai's favorite) and hash browns (my favorite).

The end.

Steak Dinner

Today I made a dinner for some guests so I decided to make a steak dinner. Salad, a steak, grilled potatoes and donuts.

This is the kitchen all set up to get to work.

Grilled Potatoes. I've already given you the recipe in an earlier post so I'll just show the pictures.

This is me basting the cut up potatoes to put in an oven pan.

Steak. Take a steak and marinade it in garlic, lime juice, and A1 steak sauce. Marinade it for about an hour and a half. Then sear in a pan on high. After I seared it I used a thermometer to make sure it was around 145 degrees.

Salad. This is an easy one. Just take any bag of salad, chop some tomatoes, cucumbers and apples. Mix it together.

Chimmichurri sauce. Man chimmichurri is hard to spell!

1 cup fresh parsle
3/4 cup extra virgin olive oil
3 tablespoons red wine vinegar
2 tablespoons dried oregano
2 teaspoons ground cumin
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 tablespoon minced garlic
Place all ingredients into a blender and blend until a good consistency.

Donuts. This is me rolling the donuts. The recipe for this one is found here

You don't have to use a special donut cutter. We didn't either.

The finished plate.

A donut and a donut hole.

Special thanks to Sister Puddicembe (I hope I spelled that right) and Sister Hibbert for trying this dinner and liking it. Here are some comments from them.

"Chef Owen, Your food was incredible. The steak was perfectly cooked and you did a great job with the salad. Thank you for all the work and keep it up!  ~Sister Hibbert"

"Owen, You did an amazing job! I'm so full of yummy food I could BURST!! Thank you for sharing your talent and love of good cooking! You rock! Sister Puddicembe"

The end......................... for now.
